This wallpaper celebrates the public release of my "Spider Meat" PDF, another Uresia piece with (of course) another map in it, because that's the kind of loon I am.
This one is different in a couple of ways, though, since Spider Meat is a free PDF, instead of a commercial one. You can snag it from the Cumberland Games "Free Stuff of the Moment" page (Google knows the way), and ... see if you can make sense of it. If not, it's free anyway
Spider Meat was originally written (and mapped) for a Hurricane Katrina charity anthology book, and the original was done on a very crammed deadline, so the map re-uses compass and border elements in kind of a hasty way, and isn't my finest hour. But the feel of it suits the equally chaotic nature of the article it illustrates, and I've become very fond of them both; hopefully you'll forgive the warts and enjoy the witch's brew ...
I did this with the usual media: ordinary felt-tip marker on cheap paper, piece by piece, scanned and assembled in Illustrator and Photoshop. The handwriting font used for the note is "Yank," based on my own writing. The other fonts used are Apple Butter and Atlas of the Magi, also my own work.
There are a lot of themes that run through the stock gallery many people have similar ideas but they pull them off in different ways. In this series of newsletters we will look at similar ideas but different outcomes.
Daily Literature Deviations is a group that is dedicated to bringing literature to the forefront of the deviantArt community. We attempt to accomplish this by daily featuring Literature artists from around the community that deserve the recognition, but are not getting it.
Each day we will feature 10 deviations from the Literature categories in a News Article. In order to support the artists that we feature, we ask that you the news article as well as check out the individual pieces. We understand that each day you may not be able to check out each and every one of the pieces, everyone has their own things going on. We just ask that you make an attempt to help support the growing Literature community.
When it comes to community spirit, `Rushy is a shining example. From participating in devmeets, to providing positive encouragement to other artists, `Rushy can always be found demonstrating what it really takes to be a true deviant. It's without any hesitation that we are delighted to award the Deviousness Award for July 2009 to `RushyRead More
